SCSA Tour: Elbert N. and Ann V. Carvel Research and Education Center – Georgetown, DE 06/13/2018
On June 13th, 2018, Sussex County STEM Alliance hosted a Tour conducted at the Elbert N. and Ann V. Carvel Research and Education Center (EACREC). EACREC serves as the Southern Agricultural Experiment Station for the University of Delaware College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and encompasses the Thurman Adams Jr. Agricultural Research Farm, the Warrington Irrigation Research Farm, Lasher Laboratory (poultry diagnostics), the Jones Hamilton Environmental Poultry Research House, and is home to Sussex County Cooperative Extension.
The tour gave attending educators and industry leaders an overview of how EACREC provides a convenient location for students in the southern region and connects them to classroom education on main campus. UD students, many from the Georgetown Associate of Arts program, are exposed to agriculture curriculum and the science and technology related taught by UD faculty from Newark and Georgetown. EACREC also has been actively engaged in student recruitment for the College, and provides the setting for coordinated student internships at our campus as well as with allied businesses. EACREC also provides integral support for undergraduate as well as graduate research programs.
